J. George Mayer

November 11, 1935 — June 13, 2009

J. George Mayer, 73, Wausau, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services at his home. He was born November 11, 1935 in Nekoosa, Wis. On September 17, 1966 he married Patricia Spielman in Wautoma, Wis. George worked as a social worker for Waushara and Marathon Counties for 35 years. He loved all sports from the NFL to women's fast pitch softball. Reading, bowling, computer games and watching television were a few of his hobbies. Survivors include, wife, Patricia Mayer, Wausau, son, John Mayer, Marshfield, daughter, Mary (Joe) Schneider, Wausau, two grandchildren, Joe and Susan Schneider, both of Wausau and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Mayer, brother, Frank Mayer and sister, Mary Mayer. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:00 noon, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. 2nd Street, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in the Christus Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau where at 4:00 p.m. a rosary service will be held. Visitation will resume at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services or The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
