Irma E. Burmeister
87, Marathon, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at her home.
She was born September 4, 1924 in Marathon County, daugter of the late Elmer and Ellen (Pankonien) Thurs. On December 19, 1942, she married Elmer Burmeister in the town of Berlin. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1970.
For many years, Irma farmed with her husband, Elmer and worked for Marth Wood Shavings Supply in Marathon. She was a longtime active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Rib Falls, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, playing the organ and was a member of the Ladies Aide. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed fishing, crafts and gardening.
Survivors include, three grandchildren, Stephen Haas, Marathon, Marie (Barry) Dexter, Wausau and Alison (Brad) Tonkin, Wausau; one great grandson, Alex Dexter; and one brother, Orville (Verna) Thurs, Minnesota.
Besides her parents and husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ardell Haas; and her son-in-law, Richard Haas.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Rib Falls. Rev. Terry Reich will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
