Irene J. Szymanski
78, Marathon, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born December 31, 1931 in the town of Bevent, the daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Wanta) Czech. On June 2, 1951 Irene married Raymond Szymanski in Bevent. He preceded her in death January 13, 2004.
For many years, she worked as a bank teller. Irene's hobbies included polka music, dancing, playing the concertina, and golfing. She enjoyed watching Brewers, Packers and Badger sports games. Memberships included the St. Mary's Altar Society and the Marathon VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include six children: Gary (Helen) Szymanski, Chili; Randy (Patilee) Szymanski, Brooklyn Park Min.; Greg (Lori) Szymanski, Marathon; Dan (Veronica) Szymanski, Emerald.; David (Cindy) Szymanski, Hudson,; Mary (Mike) Larson, Clear Lake,; 15 grandchildren, one great grandson, six siblings: William Czech, Wausau; James ( Rosemary ) Czech, Ariz.; Dorothy Hoffman, Aniwa; Mattie Mientke, Slinger; Sally (Vilas) Sonntag, Schofield and Sylvia Burant, Schofield, many other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and huband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Cornelia Wanta and two brothers, Rev. Edmund Czech and Ambrose Czech.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
