Irene C. Olds

Irene C. Olds, 98, Wausau, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 05, 2016 at Stoney River Assisted Living under the care of AsceraCare Hospice. She was born May 10, 1918 in Knowlton, the youngest of 9 children born to the late Alois and Rose (Sturm) Stark. On September 3, 1938 Irene married Chester Olds. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1996. After graduating from high school, Irene worked at Marathon Converters Credit Union and later at the Church of St. Anne, where she served as church secretary until her retirement. She was a charter member of the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, a member of the St. Catherine's Council, Regina Circle, Knights of Columbus Women's Club and the Catholic Women's Club. Among her favorite pastimes were playing cards, especially bridge, sheepshead and poker, playing golf, shopping and traveling with her husband, Chester. Irene is survived by her children, Fred (DeLane) Olds, Wausau, Alan (Laurie) Olds, Rhinelander and Mary Lynn (Michael) Joswick, Wausau; grandchildren Chet (Carrie) Olds, Scott (Vanessa) Olds, Linda (Tom) Fox, Andrew (Deanna) Olds, Michele (Craig) Wendorf, Marsha (Kevin) Lang, Mark (Amber) Joswick and Melissa (Brandon) Murphy; step-grandchildren Phil, Eric, Peter and Sheila; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Rueben, August, Joe, Harold and Fred; and her sisters Evelyn, Leona and Grace. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Stoney River Assisted Living and the staff at AseraCare Hospice, especially her guardian angel, Megan, for the special tender loving care all of you gave to our mother and grandmother during her stay.
