Irene N. Ewert
84, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Evergreen Unit at Mountview Care Center, Wausau.
She was born October 9, 1926 in Wausau, daughter of the late Anton and Anastasia "Stella" (Frydack) Burclaff. On February 23, 1946, she married Harold G. Ewert at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1977.
Following the death of her husband, Harold, Irene continued working on the family homestead, gardening, growing sweet corn and ginseng. She will always be remembered for her kindness shown to others, giving away most of what she grew in her gardens to people in need. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed gardening, polka music, fishing and the outdoors. She was always very proud of the "Big Northern" she caught while on one of the many fishing trips to Canada with her husband.
Survivors include, five children, Gladys (special friend, Larry) Ewert, Mosinee, Judy Budleski, Wausau, Laurie (David) Esker, Mosinee, Bill (Sharon) Ewert, Marathon and Jim (Angela) Ewert, Birnamwood; eight grandchildren, Tom Borski, Jennie (Keith) Christian, Bryan Budleski, Bobbie Jo Esker, Becky Esker-Helf, Army SPC Kyle Ewert, Afghanistan, Cody Ewert and Kailie Ewert; seven great grandchildren, Tirsa Borski, Matthew, Sarah, Emily Christian and Joshua, Nicholas and Zachary Budleski; and one sister, Esther Loos, Wausau.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Roy Ewert; and two brothers, Clarence and Arnold Burclaff.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Bernie and the entire palliative care staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the staff on the Evergreen Unit at Mountview Care Center, Wausau for all the extrodinary care given to Irene. All of you went above and beyond your call of duty.
