Irene Bonkoski

Irene Bonkoski 88, Marathon, died Wednesday April 25, 2007 at North Central Health Care, Wausau. She was born September 10, 1918 in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Smasel) Seliger. On September 6, 1937 she married James Bonkoski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death June 26, 2006. Irene farmed with her husband for 24 years then in 1962 moved to Marathon where she worked in St. Mary School hot lunch program and at the Retreat Center. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (Herbert) Meyer, Marathon; five grandchildren and six great-grandsons; brother, Donald (Shirley) Seliger, Tucson, Ariz. and sisters Dorothy Kraimer, Medford and Geraldine Zimmerman, Marshfield. Besides her parents and husband, James, she was preceded in death by an infant sister and sister, Jeanette Kosmerchock; brother, Jerome and grandson, Mark Meyer. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Saturday from 9 a.m. until services all at the church.
