Irene Ruth Balz

Irene R. Balz 92, Wausau, died Friday, August 29, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born January 26, 1916 in Schofield, daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Zinzer) Zweck. On August 25, 1951, she married Harry C. Balz in Pine City, Minn. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1975. Irene and her husband Harry owned and operated the former Balz's Bar in Hamburg. For many years, Irene worked as a custodian at Wausau Hospital until her retirement. Survivors include, two daughters, Rosalie Lineweaver, Wausau and Pat Radtke, Marathon; one son, George (Aurora) Coushman, Gardnerville, Nev.; two step-daughters, Barbara (Eugene) Kriehn, Lomira, Wis. and Carolyn Kriehn, Wild Rose, Wis.; one step-son, Richard (Betty) Balz, Ladysmith; one sister, JoAnne (Bruce) Bradley, El Paso, Tex.; one brother, Joseph Zweck, Lakewood, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews further survive. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. James Schaefer will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
