Ignatz "Uncle Nick" Michlig
96, a lifelong resident of the town of Cassel, died Saturday October 16, 2004, at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau, under the Care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born June 25, 1908, in the town of Cassel, son of the late Wendell and Theresa(Furger) Michlig. On October 3, 1933, he married Joanna Soczka at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. She survives. Prior to his retirement, Ignatz farmed the Michlig family homestead. The Michligs were devout members of St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Among his favorite things to do were, attending farm auctions, being in the woods, making firewood and cooking maple syrup. He was an avid sheepshead player and in his earlier years, he competed in and won several Horse Pulling Contests.
Survivors include his wife, Joanna Michlig, a brother, Alex Michlig, Wausau and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Henry, Louis and Edward Michlig and a sister, Annie Dalsky.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Weds. October 20, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Weds. from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Marathon funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Parish, Marathon.
