Herbert W. Bergs

Herbert W. Bergs 81, Edgar, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 under the care of Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born January 31, 1924 in the town of Rib Falls, son of the late Anton and Katherine (Schueller) Bergs. On June 13, 1945, he married Mary Alice Hall at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving during World War II and a life member of the American Legion Sawyer Drumm Post #393, Edgar. After selling his dairy farm in the town of Rib Falls, Herbert drove fuel truck for the Edgar Co-op until the time of his retirement and then ran errands for his sons business. Besides playing sheepshead with his card club and tending his garden, he always had a smile for everyone he met. Herbert cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mary Alice Bergs, Edgar; survivors includes two children, Karen (Robert) Rozewicz, Wausau and Dennis (Diane) Bergs, Edgar; four grandchildren, Maria (Wayne Neubecker) Pergolski and Shawn Pergolski, Danielle and Ashley Bergs; two sisters, Germaine Ritger, Marathon, and Sister Lawrence Bergs, Milwaukee; two brothers, Sylvester Bergs, Wausau and Lawrence (Gladys) Bergs, Camp Douglas; one brother-in-law, Hubert Fochs, Wausau. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alex, Alois and Anthony Bergs; two sisters, Dolores Fochs & Sister Kathleen Bergs; one sister-in-law, Loretta Bergs. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery where there will be full military honors conducted. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and again from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday all at the church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Tuesday evening followed by a military memorial services conducted by the American Legion Sawyer Drumm Post #393, Edgar.
