Helen E. Wood
95, Wausau, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2006 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Wellington Place, Rib Mountain.
She was born January 11, 1911 in the town of Easton, daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Lovejoy) Wood. Helen helped with household chores until the time she and her sister, Pearl, moved off the family farm on Bridge Street, Wausau with their father. Together, they took care of their father until the time of his death.
Helen worked at Marathon Electric, and later for the Boy Scouts of America until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wausau and a former member of the Gladiola Society of Wausau. Among her many interests, she enjoyed her garden, sewing, embroidering and quilting. She also had a special love for animals, especially dogs. Helen loved to travel and through the years, took many road trips throughout the U.S. with her sister and longtime best friend, Pearl.
Survivors include, many nieces, nephews, great, great-grand and great-great-grand nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl and six other sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
