Helen M. Walters

Helen M. Walters, 82, of the town of Texas, died Sunday May 27, 2012 at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston. She was born February 7, 1930, in Antigo, daughter of the late Glen and Margaret (Schisel) Thorn. On December 4, 1948, she married Frank V. Walters in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death January 20, 2007. Prior to her retirement, Helen had been employed as a school secretary at St. Michael Catholic School, Wausau and later with St. John Lutheran School, town of Easton. Helen was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking as well as making sure no one ever left her home hungry. She will be fondly remembered for the fabulous chocolate Christmas candies and treats she made for family and friends. Knitting and needlepoint were favorite pastimes for Helen. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren received gifts from her ranging from hats and mittens to baby blankets, all handmade with love. She was a faithful member of the North Texas Homemakers Club. Above all, Helen loved the time spent with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. Survivors include five children, Ron (Deb) Walters, Terri Fronek, Mary Jo (Bob) Prahl, Jim (Kay) Walters, Mike (Jean) Walters, all of Wausau, 15 grandchildren, Samantha (Corey) Sanders, Melissa (Andrew) Krueger, Joe & Tom Walters; Jesse (Jodi) Fronek & Erin (Jose) Vargas; Bobbi (Jeff) Cloeter, Becky (fiancAC., Jeff Pietryga), Gina, Ryan (Lindsey) Prahl; Andy (Jen) & Adam (fiancAC., Kristina) Walters; Kristin (Josh) Reinicke, Laura & Michelle Walters, ten great-grandchildren, four siblings, Beth Allman, Carol Gajewski, Bob (Marge) Thorn and Jack (Sandy) Thorn, all of Wausau. Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Thorn. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 2, 2012, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Visitation on Saturday will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Michael Parish or Newman High School.
