Helen H. Tambornino
91, Wausau, died Friday August 5, 2011 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
She was born May 4, 1920, in the town of Emmet, daughter of the late Bernard 'Ben' and Anna (Franz) Jansen. On June 20, 1939, she married Charles A. Tambornino at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death November 1987.
For twenty years following their marriage, Helen and Charles were dairy farmers. Later, they began Tambornino Construction, which they owned and operated until the time of their retirement.
Helen was multi-talented and used her talents in a variety of different pursuits. She enjoyed painting and many of her works decorate the homes of her family. Among her other interests were ceramics, writing short stories about life experiences, traveling extensively, decorating cakes of all types, camping, square dancing, and making redwood tables and crafts. Creating Pinata's for her grandchildren and family members was a special love of Helen's and she enjoyed this task until just recently. In the community, Helen was an active member of the Church of St. Anne, Wausau, involved in many volunteer projects within the church and was also a longtime scout leader.
Above all she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Charles (Diana) Tamborino, Pinson, Alabama, Gerald (Sharon) Tamborino, Louden, Tenn., David (June) Tambornino, Wausau, Benjamin Tambornino, Los Angeles, Calif., Michael (Toni) Tambornino, Mosinee, daughters, Marie (David) Czaja, Shakopee, Minn., Evelyn Leveritt, San Antonio, Tex., Judy (Len) Berg, Edgar, Ruth (Gary) Koch, Rib Mountain, Theresa (Randy) Matz, Wausau, a son-in-law, Fred Singkofer, Wausau, 38 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Richard Jansen, West Bend and Ben (Jenny) Jansen, Mosinee.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Singkofer, a grandson, Brian Tambornino, siblings, Norbert, Walter, Mary Ann, Harold and Charles.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday August 9, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
