Helen A. Schlaefer

Helen A. Schlaefer 89, Wausau, died Friday July 7, 2006 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born March 26, 1917 in Wausau, daughter of the late Gustave and Anna (Schroeder) Ziebell. She was a graduate of Wausau Senior High School. On August 18, 1938, she married John B. Schlaefer in Waukon, Ill. He preceded her in death. Helen was a homemaker, enjoyed crafts and was a longtime volunteer at the Talent Shop. She was a member of the Catholic Woman's Club, the Church Prayer Group and for several years was a crossing guard. Survivors include her children, John C. "Jack" (Sandy) Schlaefer, Three Lakes, Karen (Jack) Mielke, Wausau and Jim Schlaefer, Wausau, her grandchildren, Sue (Todd) Fischer, Mary (Jeff D.) Johnson, Diane (Jeff J.) Johnson, John D. (Wendy) Schlaefer, Greg (Tonya) Schlaefer, Corey (Kerri) Mielke, Katrina (Steve) Kopp, Bradley (Jessica) Mielke, Jennifer Schlaefer, Nicole (Phil Binkley) Schlaefer, her great-grandchildren, Erin, Ben, Amanda, Johanna, Samantha, Chayden, Jacob, John Ethan, MeganJo, Caraline, Kole and Austin. There are three great grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Gretchen Ziebell and Louise Schlaefer and special friends Gerry, Faith and Etta. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Herbert and Gerhard Ziebell and sisters, Dorothy Dhein and Margaret Steckling. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday July 10, 2006 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Jesus Christ, Wausau. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
