Helen A. Kummerow

Helen A. Kummerow 91, Weston, formerly of Marathon, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston. She was born September 21, 1916 in the town of Marathon, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Murr) Hornung. On August 8, 1940 she married Leonard Kummerow at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1998. Helen was a homemaker and also worked at Marathon Cheese for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, tending to her many flower beds, playing cards and just being outdoors. Above all things she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Dennis (Laura) Kummerow, Wausau, Patricia (Ralph) Furger, Marathon, Janice (LeRoy) Lang, Marathon and James (Glenda) Kummerow, Tomahawk, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, her siblings, Albin (Mary Ann) Hornung and Lorraine (Arnold) Krautkramer, both of Marathon, Florence Kage and Joan (Mark) Boehm, both of Wausau. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter Jenny Lang and her siblings, Henry, John, George and Peter Hornung, Rose Martin, Mary Knauf, Adeline Michaud, Irene Sekorski, Viola Lambrecht, Hilda Printz and Gertrude Lang. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Helen's name.
