Helen A. Hartman
86, 404 Mueller St., Athens, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.
She was born August 31, 1917, in Phillips, daughter of the late Jaroslav and Katarina (Princ) Sedivy. On July 14, 1941, she married Lawrence Hartman at St. Mary Catholic Church, Phillips. He survives.
Helen received her BS degree in Home Economics from the University of Wisconsin Stout, Menomonie. She taught home economics and science at the Athens High School then took off time to raise her family before she joined Lawrence in the operation of Hartman's Variety Store, Athens. Helen was a member of the St. Anthony Parish Council of Catholic Women and taught CCD classes, was a Girl Scout Leader and volunteered as a librarian in the St. Anthony School. Among her favorite things to do were fishing, camping, walking and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Besides her husband, Lawrence, survivors include two daughters, Kathryn (Allen Holzhueter) Hartman, Madison and Victoria Hartman, Yosemite National Park, Calif.; three sons, Anthony Hartman, Medford, Mass., James (Judith) Hartman, Athens and David (Susan) Hartman, Cedarburg; two granddaughters, Teresa & Amanda; four step grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jane, Jon and Jean; six step great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Hartman; three sisters, Victoria, Agnes and Mamie and a brother, Jerry.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
There will be a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the Athens funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to St. Anthony School.
