Helen L. Giese

Helen L. Giese, 84, died Thursday, July 19, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born April 25, 1934 in Athens, daughter of the late Sanford and Eula (Wisner) Morse. On December 15, 1953 she married Thomas Giese. He survives. Helen's greatest joy was time spent with family and enjoying a meal with a pretty set table. Helen enjoyed cooking, canning, and quilting. She was very active in her community with her church and card clubs. She loved spending time with her husband, bus trips, traveling to Las Vegas, taking an occasional trip to the casino and catching up with family and friends on facebook. Survivors include her husband of 64 A½ years, Tom Giese; children, Mary Jo and Peter Vander Grinten, Mark and Michele Giese, Lori and Mark Dougherty and Rick and Steph Giese; grandchildren, Jon Vander Grinten, Sara (Ryan) Goerlitz, Will Dougherty, Riley Dougherty, Ben Giese and Stacey Giese; great-grandchildren, Avie and Jonah Goerlitz; sisters, Nancy Albrecht, Audrey (Harold) Pruss, Alberta (Wayne) Walker and Sally (Lamont) Meinen; sisters-in-law, Nancy Streich and Jackie Bergmann; brother-in-law, Ed (Marge) Giese, numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Sanford Jr. and Judy Morse and a brother-in-law, Earl Albrecht. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Christ United Church, Athens. Rev. Teri Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery, Athens. Visitation will be Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Christ United Church, Athens.
