Helen E. Bergmann

Helen E. Bergmann, 95, Athens died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Evergreen Place, Kronenwetter. She was born December 2, 1920 in Dorchester, daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Dessl) Suennen. On May 26, 1944 she married Ervin Bergmann at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1982. After graduating from Marathon County Teachers College, she taught in rural Marathon County Schools for five years. For 30 years, Helen served as clerk for the town of Bern. In earlier years, she enjoyed gardening and had traveled extensively. Among her favorite pastimes were, birdwatching, reading, crossword puzzles and playing sheepshead. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was a member of their choir for Sunday Mass and funerals. Above all, she loved the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Neil (Karen) Bergmann, Athens, Jane (Bucky) Bautch, Arcadia, Barbara (John) Losey, Mesa, Ariz., Alan (Linda) Bergmann, Mosinee, Mary (Mickey) Hadick, Holt, Mich., Bruce (Kay) Bergmann, Eau Claire, Keith (Lisa) Bergmann, Wausau; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Bergmann, Kenosha and, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Stuart and David, infant twin daughters, one grandson, Anthony Bergmann, her siblings, Henry Suennen Jr., Margaret Suckow, Katherine Joers and Pauline Kornack. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Rev. George Graham will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
