Helen E. Bergman
91, formerly of Pioneer Road, Athens, died Saturday May 22, 2004 at Continental Manor Nursing Home, Abbottsford.
She was born August 7, 1912 in the town of Stettin, daughter of the late Gustave and Ida (Ristau) Rubow. On April 30, 1938 she married Alfred Bergman in Ironwood, Mich. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Helen had been employed at Wausau Motor Parts for six years and later farmed with her husband in the town of Rietbrock. She was a good cook and was an excellent seamstress able to sew just about anything. Through the years, she sewed many wedding and bridesmaids dresses for people in the area.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens and a was a member and officer of the Rietbrock Homemakers Club.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Nola "Tootie") Bergman, Spokane, Wash., Gary (Shirley) Bergman, Athens, Richard (Janet "Tubby") Bergman, Marathon, two daughters-in-law, Dorothy (Robert) Schultz, Thorp and Linda Bergman, Edgar, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Alfred, she was preceded in death by two sons, David and Thomas Bergman, a grandson, Brian Bergman, three sisters, Elsie Saindon, Laura Klemp and Lucille Thompson, seven brothers, Theodore, Martin, Eugene, Hugo, Raymond, Gilbert and Douglas Rubow.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. May 26, 2004 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Weds. from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Dale & Scott Bergman, Rick Rubow, Dale Beckman, David & Jason Stahnke.
