Harriett E. Syring

Harriett E. Syring, 78, Wausau, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 while residing at Homestead Assisted Living facility in Waunakee, Wis. She was born January 14, 1930 near the north side of Chicago, daughter of the late Edwin A. and Lucy V. (Lord) Wolf. On June 2, 1951, she married Ernest A. Syring in Wausau. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1988. Harriett spent her early years in Chicago, relocating for a brief period of time to Decatur, Ill and eventually moved to Wausau with her family. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Wausau, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1951. Harriett studied Art at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon where she earned an Associate Degree and was an accomplished artist. For many years, Harriett worked at Marywood Convalescent Center as a Registered Nurse, where she retired in 2000. She was fascinated with computers, enjoyed traveling, was excited about genealogical research and was very fond of animals. Harriett dedicated most of her life caring for her four children. Survivors include, three children, Michael Syring, Wausau, Bob (Marilyn) Syring, Middleton and Susan (Dr. David) Chen, Hartford; three grandchildren, Mary Leitzke, Andrew and Adam Chen; two great grandchildren, Noah and Nathan Leitzke; and two sisters, Peggy (Warren) Schmidt, Oregon, Wis. and Rosa (Dr. John) Diddams, Marquette, Mich. Besides her parents and husband, Ernest, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jason Syring on November 13, 1990; and her brother Edwin A. Wolf Jr. on February 4, 2001. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Wausau. Rev. Tim Vanden Langenberg will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Marathon County Humane Society, the Salvation Army or Hospice Inc. Memorials may be sent to the family of Harriett Syring at 1719 Pardee Street, Wausau, WI 54401.
