Harold D. Tessmer

Harold D. Tessmer, 83, Wausau, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Allison House, Schofield, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. He was born June 12, 1926 in Wausau, son of the late Paul and Kathryn (Newman) Tessmer. On September 6, 1965, he married Ruth Baumann at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Harold worked for Wausau Metals Corporation for many years as a draftsman and estimator. He was a gifted and well-known woodcarver. His woodcarving themes included bird and animal studies, mythological creatures, Old West dioramas, and religious statues, several of which were done for parishes in the Wausau area. His work has been exhibited at First American National Bank and at Marathon County Public Library. An article featuring Harold and his work, "Whittling Away the Winters," by Barbara Lundquist, appeared in the Wausau Daily Herald on February 8, 1980. Survivors include his sister, Phyllis Henneman, town of Hamburg; his brother, Dale (Kathy) Tessmer, Madison; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife, Ruth. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
