Harold J. Kage
82, 801 Parcher Street, Wausau, a former Marathon resident, died Weds. September 4, 2002 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born March 30, 1920 in Rib Falls, son of the late Henry and Clara (Riehle) Kage. On November 11, 1950 he married Eleanor Dahlke at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.
Harold was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps, stationed in England. He was a member of the American Legion, Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon. After attending Marathon County Normal School, Harold was a teacher in the local rural area. Later, he was a milk hauler and ginseng grower. As an avid sports fan, he followed the Badgers, Bears and was especially fond of the Cubs. He also enjoyed card playing, going to the cottage and speaking German.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, his children, Pamela (Joe) Osswald, Wausau, and their children, Joshua, Renae, Heather and Laura; Jacalyn (Delton) Karlen, Marathon, and their family, Matthew, Christopher and Jonathan; Jeff Kage, Marathon, and his son, Paul; Mark (Lori) Kage, Marathon, and their son, Brett; Sheila (James) Wirig, Wausau; Michael (Maryann) Kage, Wausau, and their family, Jacob and Samantha; one sister, Amella (Raymond) Beilke, Wausau, three brothers, Raymond (Florence) Kage, Herbert (Elmyra) Kage and Wilfred (Mary Ann) Kage, all of Wausau.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Kage.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday September 7, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Very Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion. Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Marathon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tom, Peter, Pat, Doug, Shawn Kage and Greg Goetsch.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon.
The family would like to take this opportunity to extend their sincere appreciation to everyone involved with Harold's care, especially Mount View Care Center, the staff at the Gardens, Stonecrest Assisted Living and Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
