Harold Dahlke

Harold "Bud" J. Dahlke 87, Wausau, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Wausau Manor. He was born May 23, 1923 in Wausau, son of the late Joseph and Susan (Fochs) Dahlke. On February 14, 1953, he married Dolores Urmanski at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. She survives. Bud was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and was part of the first 19 year old draft. He served with the 168th Artillery Division in New Guinea and the Philippines for 2 1/2 years. Bud was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau , a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau and a member of the Knights of Columbus. For many years, Bud owned and operated the former Bud Dahlke Plumbing and Heating in Wausau until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes, he was an avid bowler and was President of the City of Wausau Bowling Association for one year. He loved dancing with his wife and spending time with his family. In his younger years, he played many sports and has always been an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Survivors include, his wife, Dolores Dahlke, Wausau; four children, Beverly (Greg) Dahlke-Smith, Arroyo Grande, Calif., Diane (Michael) Dahlke-Myers, Wausau, Lori (Rand) Zoborowski, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Renee (Todd) Swansby, Wisconsin Dells; three grandchildren, Angela Jehn, Madelyn and Sophia Swansby; two sisters, Ruth Hirsch and Joyce Siewert, both of Wausau; two sisters-in-law, Alice Dahlke, Wausau and Sue Dahlke, Batesville, Miss.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Gripentrog; and two brothers, Harvey and Jerome Dahlke. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Entombment will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Bud's name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wausau Manor, especially, Jason and Dave, and the staff at U-W Cancer Center, Wausau for the wonderful care and support given to Bud.
