Gustave G. Mayer, 88, 1727 W. Garfield Avenue, Wausau, died February 20, 2003, under the Care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
Gustave was born April 4, 1914, in Chelsea, son of the late Adam and Pauline Mayer. He married Leona Neft on May 18, 1943 in Shooks, Minnesota. She survives.
Gustave retired in 1977 from J.I. Case Corporation. He had been a involved with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Name Society.
Besides his wife, Leona, Wausau, he is survived by two daughters, Jeanette (David) Goetsch, Weston, Paulette Miller, Rothschild, two sons, David (Patsy) Mayer, and Andrew (Michel) Mayer, all of Wausau;21 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Walter (Mary) Mayer, West Allis, and half sister, Esther Tilke, Milwaukee.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Mayer, an infant grandson, Wade Miller and a sister, Hildegarde Gresl.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday February 24, 2003 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Joseph Gyim-Austin will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Friends may call on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
