Grace A. Ewan, 79, Athens, died Sunday, October 12, 2003.
She was born June 20, 1924 in the town of Johnson, daughter of the late Eugene and Adeline (Gaiser) Bhend. On June 8, 1946 she married Ervin C. Ewan at St. John Evangelical Church, Milan. He survives.
Grace was a graduate of the Marathon County Normal School, Wausau. Prior to her marriage, she taught school at Bruckerville, town of Holton; Ladd, town of Johnson; Briggs, town of Wein; and Van Buren, town of Bern. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she was active in Christ United Church, Athens having been a Sunday School teacher for 30 years and serving part of that time as Church School Superintendent. She played the organ for church services, gave private music lessons, and was an honorary member of the Women's Guild having served in various offices in that organization.
Survivors include her husband Ervin Ewan, Athens, one son Richard (Nancy) Ewan, Athens; two daughters, Suzanne (Rev. Kenneth) Dix, Colby, Diane Meyer, Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond (Azalee) Bhend, Hudson, Harold Bhend and Norman (Marilyn) Bhend, all of Athens; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Bhend in 1997.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 at Christ United Church, Athens. Rev. Kenneth Dix will officiate. Burial will be in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, town of Johnson. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Ewan Family Education Scholarship Trust.
She will be remembered for her deep faith in God, her unconditional love of her family and her appreciation of music.
