Gordon "Gordy" A. Knoeck, age 86 passed away peacefully with the love and support of family on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Mount View Care Center under the care of Compassus Hospice.
Gordy was born November 18, 1937 in the town of Marathon to John and Mayme (Linder) Knoeck. He attended Marathon elementary and high school, and served in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Before entering the Army, he worked the family farm, operated an excavator at a granite pit in Marathon, and worked on a mink farm. On June 3, 1961, Gordy married the love of his life Ann Masanz. They were married for 59 years before Ann’s passing on October 28, 2020. Gordy went to work for Wisconsin Public Service in 1966 and was promoted to lead lineman during his career. He retired June 1998.
Together Gordy and Ann lived in Wausau raising their daughter Diane. Gordy lived a life knowing the importance of a strong work ethic, faith, and family. He was a problem solver and could fix almost anything. He and Ann built several rental properties together. They enjoyed family vacations, gatherings with family and friends and caring for their two grandchildren Paul and Michele.
Gordon was an involved member of the Wisconsin Public Service Men’s Club, and the Catholic Order of Foresters, Marathon and played dartball on a local Church league.
When Gordon was not working or building houses he enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing trips to Canada, going to the fair to win stuffed animals playing tip the bottle, and after work taking his grandson to Marathon Park for train rides. During spring and early summer Gordon enjoyed working at Rib Mountain Greenhouse.
After the passing of his wife Gordy moved to Mountain Terrace Assisted Living. Here he made many friends, enjoyed weekly bingo games, and many visits from his daughter and great grandson. The highlight of his week were Sunday visits to Todd and Diane’s for an afternoon catching up on the week’s happenings, watching the Packers, playing Chinese Checkers, sitting on the deck enjoying an old-fashioned and a delicious home cooked meal.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane (Todd) Treu, Wausau, WI. Two grandchildren: Paul (Jena) Treu, Weston, WI and Michele (Lucas) Bautch, Wausau, WI. One great grandson Holden Treu and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, parents John and Mayme (Linder) Knoeck, brother Marvin Knoeck, and sister Mary Ann Hornung.
We thank everyone at Mount View Dementia Care Center and Compassus Hospice Care for the kind and compassionate care Gordy received these last few weeks.
