Gordon C. Westfall Gordon C. Westfall, 79, N103 Highway 107, Merrill, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. Gordon was born March 10, 1923, in Hamburg, son of the late Andrew and Sophie (Greiner) WestfalI. He married Kathryn Schreiner on June 28, 1947, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Gordon proudly served in the United States Navy for two years as a Seaman First Class aboard the LST 958. Gordon and Katie have owned and operated Westfall's Bar for the past 45 years. He also farmed, logged, worked at Murray's Foundry, and Fromm Brothers. He enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing. Gordon also enjoyed watching and attending baseball games. Spending time with his grandchildren brought great joy to him. Tending to his pond and spending time at his lake cabin were also among his favorite things to do. Besides his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by one son, John (Jean) Westfall, Marathon; five daughters, Judy (Richard) Ashbrenner, Merrill, Gerri (Larry) Natzke, Eau Claire, Carol (James) Berndt, Merrill, Irene (David) Mroczenski, Marathon, and LuAnn (Mark) Schneider, Hamburg; 12 grandchildren, Cheryl (Frank) Lencz, Richie Ashbrenner, Joseph Westfall, Nicole Natzke, Chris Berndt, Thomas Westfall, Matt Mroczenski, Jeff Natzke, Deanna Mroczenski, Melissa Berndt, Brittney Schneider and Brooke Schneider; two great-grandchidren, Ashley Ashbrenner and Stephen Lencz; four brothers, Harold (Delores) Westfall and Ralph (Aliscq) Westfall, all of Athens, Kenneth (Lucy) Westfall, Boston, and Donald (Marlene) Westfall, Athens; six sisters, Clara (John) Hennig, Athens, Laverna Kramm, Ely, Minn., Lucinda (EImer) Nehrbass, Wausau, Marcie (Joseph) Scheithauer, Medford, Myrtle (Elmer) Nimmerguth, Eau Claire, and Iris (Frank) Schreiner, Athens; one sister-in-law, Betty Westfall, Athens; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Westfall; and one infant sister. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.14, 2002, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Rev. James Horath will preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. 'Grandpa Gordie will be sadly missed by all.'
