Gordon D. "Gordy" Kieffer, 96, Wausau, died Tuesday October 11, 2016 at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter.
He was born September 22, 1920 in Wausau, son of the late John B. and Anna (Tetzlaff) Kieffer. On May 25, 1946, he married Florence Frank at St. Mary's Rectory, Wausau. She survives.
Gordon served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, the American Legion, Montgomery Plant Dudley Post No. 10 and the Elks Lodge No. 248. Years ago, Gordy was also a bugler with the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps.
Following their marriage, the Kieffer's owned and operated the Pine Bar Restaurant and apartment rentals along with Gordy's brother, John. After John's death, Gordy and Florence continued the business until their retirement after 46 years of hard work and service to the community.
Among his many involvements, Gordy was a longtime member and usher at St. Michael Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing tennis well into his 80's and also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona after their retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Florence Kieffer, children, Lynn (Dennis) Madl, Denton, Tex., Bruce (Monica) Kieffer, Madison, Anne Kieffer, Wausau and James Kieffer; five grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Madl, Collin (Beth Stadtmueller) Kieffer, Patrick (Laura Denton) Madl, Kristin Madl, Haley (Neil) Simmons; seven great grandchildren, Keira & Liam Madl, Max Madl, Clara Kieffer, Lillian, Elizabeth & Allison Simmons; special nephew, Joseph Rohling and niece, Patricia Mertens along with other nieces, nephew and great nieces.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, John B. Kieffer, Gertrude Zulawnik, Evelyn Mertens and Dorothy Rohling.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 17, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
