Gordon Johnson

Gordon "John" A. Johnson 82, Edgar, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, ICU Unit, Marshfield. He was born October 31, 1928 in Wausau, son of the late Peter and Leone (Jaecks) Johnson. On October 3, 1970 he married Cecilia Burger at St. John Catholic Church, Wuertzburg. She survives. John served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a bar manager at Burger's Bar and some of his hobbies included gardening, taking care of his lawn, making maple syrup and canning sauerkraut to give away. John also enjoyed playing sheepshead, cribbage and was an avid Packer fan, holding season tickets since 1958. Survivors include his wife, Cecilia, Edgar; son, Peter (Eva) Johnson, Athens; grandchildren, Andrew, William, Grace and Ty; sister, Nancy Hassel, Wausau and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Reissmann and Joyce Prott and a brother, Bill Johnson. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan. The Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Wuertzburg Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Athens funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
