Gladys V. Calloway 86, Wausau, formerly of Kenosha, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. She was born July 10, 1925 in Bessemer, Mich., daughter of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Niemister) Haavisto. In 1945, she married Russell O. Newman in Bessemer, Mich., he preceded her in death in 1964. In 1975, she married James Calloway in Flint, Mich., he preceded her in death in1992. Gladys enjoyed reading, sewing and handwork. Survivors include, three sons, Ralph (Sandy) Christensen, Bessemer, Mich., Russell (Diane Taylor) Newman, Sturtevant and John (Patricia) Newman, Wausau; two daughters, Arlene (Bob) Verborg, Sturtevant and Linda (Bill) Burson, Grand Prairie, Tex.; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Engstrom and Florence Verbos; and one brother, Arthur Haavisto. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Restlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Restlawn Memorial Park.
