Gertrude Weiler
86, 400 Elm Street, Athens, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Memorial Health Center, Medford.
She was born April 24, 1918 in Whittlesey, daughter of the late William and Lena (Frischmann) Dassow. On November 23, 1937, she married Theodore "Ted" Weiler at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1998.
Gertrude along with her husband, farmed in the town of Bern until the time of their retirement. She also was a cook for the Athens School. Besides sewing, embroidering and making dishtowels and quilts, she enjoyed watching baseball and keeping the umpires in line. Most special to her was being with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters, Rose Marie (Charles) Simchick, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Carol (David) Geiger, Dorchester, Nancy Weiler, Wausau, Beverly Fula, Elm Grove and Sharon (Clay Boeger) Erdman, Athens; four sons, Norbert (Nancy) Weiler, Medford; Tom (Betsy) Weiler and David Weiler all of Athens and Daniel (Florica) Weiler, Arlington Heights, Ill; 26 Grandchildren; 35 Great Grandchildren; one sister, Leona (Lorin) Albrecht, Medford; Two brothers, Lester (Christine) Dassow and Raymond (Darlene) Dassow all of Medford.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by grandson, Jamie Erdman; sons-in-law, Richard Erdman and Bernard Fula; daughter-in-law, Barbara Weiler; four sisters, Elsie Loeffler, Bertha Diels, Amanda Steen and Hildagarde Jari; five brothers, William, Ervin, Ernest, Gerald and Herbert Dassow.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2004 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
There will be a parish rosary on 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the Athens funeral home.
