Germaine M. Mason
91, Marathon, died February 21, 2012 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
Germaine was born May 8, 1920 in Marathon, daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Sauter) Knoeck. She graduated from Marathon High School in 1938, playing on the girls basketball team that went to state finals. In 1939 she married Elwood Charles Mason in Wausau where they resided. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1971.
Germaine worked as a pharmacy clerk at Medical Arts Pharmacy and at Union Prescription until her retirement. She also participated in elections as a poll worker both in Wausau and later years in Marathon. Circle of Joy, St. Anthony's Retreat Center and Color Vision benefited from her many hours of volunteer work. She enjoyed playing bridge, Stunt Night at Wausau East High School, being a brownie leader and growing huge gardens. She also liked nature hiking and bird watching.
Survivors include her children, Elwood (Caroline) Mason II of Marathon, JoAnn (Bob) Bohse of Woodbury, Minn., and David (Cindy) Mason of Marathon; seven grandchildren, Linda (Jeffrey) Schield, Elwood (Dr. Lisa Henriksen) Mason III, Dr. Megan (Alex Atterbury) Bohse, Melissa Bohse, Amanda Mason, David Mason Jr., Matthew Mason; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Schield, Anders Mason and Leah Atterbury.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Knoeck and Francis David (Milda) Knoeck, and one sister, Dorothy Knoeck.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Mount View Care Center 2nd Floor West for their exceptional compassionate care given to Germaine during her stay.
