Gerald "Jerry" R. Voigt

Gerald “Jerry” R. Voigt, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, January 13, 2025, at his home.

He was born February 29, 1944, in Wausau, son of the late Edward and Minnie (Luedtke) Voigt.  On October 11, 1969, he married Geraldine Borchardt at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg and they were happily married for 55 years.

For over 25 years Jerry worked as a window clerk at the Post Office. He could tell you any zip code in Wisconsin and was the go-to for finding the addresses of classmates to plan class reunions.  He was involved with the 4-H program for over 50 years, raising and showing rabbits and was very proud of winning the prestigious C.J. McAleavy Award.  Jerry enjoyed flower gardening, especially gladiolas and made floral bouquets and corsages for his children’s weddings and formals.  His yard was one you stopped to admire when passing by.  He was an avid Badgers sports fan, enjoyed trips to the casino, Diet Sundrop, and playing Farkle.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, Hamburg; children, Heidi (Debbie) Voigt, Phoenix, Arizona, Shane (Lesley) Voigt, Waunakee and Haley (Greg) Ellenbecker, Merrill; grandchildren, Fletcher, Mackenzie, Natalie and Paige; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Irene Borchardt, siblings, Evelyn (Lester) Krueger, Elmer (Elaine) Voigt, Irene (Walter) Krueger, Sheldon (Dorothy) Voigt and James (Arlene) Voigt.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg.  Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate.  Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg.
