Gerald H. Zocher

Gerald "Jerry" H. Zocher 77, Wausau, died Friday, December 3, 2010 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born April 12, 1933 in Merrill, son of the late Henry and Helen (Weide) Zocher. On July 1, 1961, he married Lois Kankelfitz at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Marathon. She survives. Gerald served in the United States Army from 1955 until 1957. For 40 years, he worked at Marathon Electric, until his retirement. Following retirement, he drove school bus for the Wausau School District, volunteered at the Dime and Dollar Resale Shop and delivered meals to those in need. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, biking, swimming, bowling and shooting pool. Gerald was also the "handyman" in the family and could fix almost anything. He was a longtime active member of Salem Lutheran Church and for many years was on the church council and was a church elder. Survivors include, his wife, Lois Zocher, Wausau; four children, Bryan (Roann Bonney) Zocher, Kalamazoo, Mich., Kerri (Todd) Olson, Ogema, Wis.; Brent Zocher, Wausau and Jay (Sara) Zocher, Ann Arbor, Mich.; one sister, Phyllis Lehmann, Wausau; and four grandchildren, Nathan Bonney and Nicholas, Henry and Lily Zocher. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and a brother-in-law, Herman Lehmann. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Richard S. Russow will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, Marathon with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon. Friends may call Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
