Gerald H. Sprague
72, Wausau, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at his home.
He was born December 22, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minn., son of the late Norman and Maxine (Rice) Sprague. On December 12, 1955, he married Loretta Ostroski in Pine City, Minn. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2001.
Gerald was a veteran of US Army and a life long member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post #388, Wausau.
Gerald was an owner/operator of St. Clair, Standard & Kerr-McGee gas stations in Wausau. He retired in 1993, after many years as mechanic/bus driver for Ed Ceranski Bus Company, which is now Laidlaw. He enjoyed playing bingo, solitaire on the computer, but his great passion was being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Giles and Kari Sprague, both of Wausau; four sons, Eugene (Elizabeth) Sprague, Junction City, Donald Sprague, Phillip Sprague and Richard Sprague, all of Wausau; 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Norma Engman, Muskego, Beverly (Jack) Moll, New Berlin, Diane (David) Jenkins and Sandy (Kent) Humphrey, all of Mosinee; two brothers, Ronald (Kay) Sprague, De Pere and Donald (Toddy) Sprague, Houston, Texas.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son, Harold Sprague in 1996, son-in-law, Greg Giles and sister, Carol Euler.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Joseph Gyim-Austin will preside. Burial will be in Snow Hill Cemetery, Merrill. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. rosary service Friday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home.
There will be full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post #388, Wausau, immediately following the mass.
