Gerald J. Sommer
72, Athens, died Thursday, September 28, 2006 at his home.
He was born March 18, 1934 in Poniatowski, son of the late Joseph and Frieda (Post) Sommer. He graduated from the Edgar High School in 1952 and served from 1956 until 1958 in the US Army during the Korean War. On October 28, 1961 he married Imogene Bargender at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1979.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Edgar Basket and Marathon Cheese Corp.
Survivors include his children, Chris (Jessica) Sommer, Athens, Sandra (Curtiss) Erickson, Dorchester, Greg (Betsy) Sommer, Merrill, Mike (Bev Behnke) Sommer, Marathon, Steve (Angie), Sommer, Athens, nine grandchildren, Rachel, Taryn, Stevie Jean, Lydia, Shane, Austin, Tyson, Emma Jean and Morgan, two sisters, Elaine (Roger) Berna, Bozeman, Mont., Marlene (James) Seehafer, Marathon and one brother, James Sommer, Edgar.
The funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2006 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. The Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the Athens funeral home.
