Gerald F. "Jerry" Mueller, 92, Wausau, died Saturday September 10, 2016 at the Hospice House.
He was born September 13, 1923, in Milwaukee, son of the late Emil and Annette (Merklein) Mueller. On April 27, 1946 he married Mary Agnes LeSage at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death August 31, 2000.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II. He felt privileged to participate in the 2014 Honor Flight and was a member of the American Legion, Montgomery Plant Dudley Post No. 10, Wausau.
Jerry began his working career with John Vehlow Painting in Wausau, later he became an insurance agent with Woodmen Accident and Life. In 1967, he joined the Allstate Insurance team retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. While employed in the insurance business, Jerry became a friend of Don Peterson and worked part time for him at Peterson Funeral Home. After his retirement, Jerry began a full time career as a funeral home assistant at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home. His attention to detail and the importance he placed on service was one he took very seriously and it allowed him to remain active meeting and greeting people. He retired from this position about a year ago and will be truly missed by his friends and co-workers.
Through the years, Jerry was a very active member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, George Schreier Council No. 1069, serving as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was also a member of the the Pere Rene Menard General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus having served as Faithful Navigator and member of the honor guard. Always an active person, Jerry was instrumental in the creation of the Newman High School Athletic Association. He also enjoyed golfing, attending his children and grandchildren's school and sporting activities, bowled in the KC league and after retiring, enjoyed traveling. On Friday's, fish fry's were typically on his agenda and his "medication" was a daily Manhattan.
For many years, the Mueller's were active members of the former St. Mary Parish in Wausau, where Jerry sang in the choir, was a lector and served as a communion distributor in church and to shut-in's.
Survivors include his children, Gerald Jr. (Darlene) Mueller, Menomonee Falls, Mary Margaret (Thomas) Schmitt, Rothschild, Michael (Angela) Mueller, Kronenwetter, Karen Mueller, Elgin, Ill., Susan (Ron) Kurth, Wausau, special family friend, Wendi Phillips, grandchildren, Dan (Cindy) Mueller, Kim (Mike) Durben, Brad (Sara) Schmitt, Sara (Paul) Block, Brooke Mueller, Jessica (Joe) Moore, Ryan and Nicholas Kurth, great grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob, Josh, Nicole, Courtney, Brandis, Ben, Brantley, Ashley, Mitchell, Mya, Ireland and Declan; and one sister, Mary Myshka, Wausau.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 16, 2016 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. Second Street, Wausau. Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Entombment will be in Garden of Eternal Rest Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
