Gerald David Engman, 76, Rothschild, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at his home with his family by his side, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born September 2, 1938 in Mosinee, son of the late Henry and Josephine (Rheinschmidt) Engman. On July 25, 1965, he married Antoinette "Toni" Kortbein at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Wausau Homes and WH Transportation for 39 years until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, watching movies and traveling, especially trips to Colorado. Gerald was an avid Packer fan, Brewer fan and Wisconsin Badger fan and also loved to play cribbage and was quite competitive.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his dog "Alice" and many friends.
Survivors include, his wife, Toni Engman, Rothschild; three daughters, Bonnie Spieth, Wausau, Kelly (Blaine) Aschenbrenner, Stratford and Holly (Mike) Coleman, Wausau; 11 grandchildren, Dustin Engman, Derek Hanson, Mackenzie, Morgan and Jonathan Spieth, Amanda and Laura Aschenbrenner, Devon and Derrell Coleman, Desmond Engman and Jada Coleman; two brothers, William (Josephine) Engman and John Engman, both of Colorado; and his special friends, Jim Waldhausen, Jim Harroun and Dr. Curt Grauer.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lorretta Hoppe and special friend, Ken Butterfield.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Allan L. Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. #388, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
