Georgianna "Georgie" Flagel

Georgianna "Georgie" Flagel, 85, Rothschild, died Monday, October 5, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born November 18, 1929 in Wausau, daughter to the late George and Celia (Gilsoul) Iversen. On December 2, 1950 she married Burton "Bud" Flagel at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. Bud and Georgie met on a blind date and were part of each other's lives for over 65 years. She worked at the former Wausau Hospital North as a cashier and later as a secretary at the Marathon County Blood Bank from which she retired. In her younger years she was active in the Wausau Jaycees and the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Survivors include her husband, Burton "Bud"; two children, Craig (Cathy) Flagel of Plover and Barb (Mark) Splinter of Rib Mountain; four grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Flagel of Wisconsin Rapids, Jennifer Flagel of Plover, Paul (Rachael) Splinter of Ringle and Robert (Katy) Splinter of Chippewa Falls; three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; two sisters, Jane Gahnz and Dorothy Schultz; two brothers, Franklin and Robert Iversen all of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Bruyere and three brothers-in-law, Harold Bruyere Sr., Sheldon Gahnz and Roland Schultz. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, October 9, 2015 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. A special thank you to the Aspirus Palliative Care Staff for your wonderful care of Georgie during her stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Catholic Church to be put towards the gathering space.
