Georgene Hasko-Lang

Georgene M. Hasko-Lang 83, Marathon, died Thursday April 22, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born September 23, 1926, in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late Raymond and Genevieve (Volhard) Wadzinski. On September 29, 1945, she married John P. Hasko. He preceded her in death May 18, 1990. On July 6, 2002, Georgene married Charles L. Lang at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. He survives. Georgene and her husband John were tavern owners, operating the 'Double J Bar' in Mosinee from 1947 until 1953 then operated 'Genie's Bar' in Wausau from 1957 until 1972. This livelihood paled to what she always said was the best job in the whole world and that was being a mother! After retirement Georgene and John found great enjoyment spending their winters in Ruskin, Florida and their summers in Wisconsin. This is a tradition that continued with Georgene and Charlie even as late as this year. Among her involvements through the years, Georgene was a member of the Catholic Knights Insurance Fraternity, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries and also served as president of the Gold Star Mothers. She took part in many church events, sponsored children in need and was always willing to help anyone who was down and out. She will be remembered as a gracious hostess and fabulous entertainer whose door was always open. Throughout the different stages of life Georgene enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling and traveling with her special safety man, "George". Survivors include her husband, Charles L. Lang Sr., Marathon, her children, Randall (Angela) Hasko, Marathon, Barbara (Terry) Meeker, Mosinee, Vicky Hasko (Juliette Farrar) Henderson, Nevada, Cynthia Hasko Wittke,(late husband Gregory) Wausau, Lisa (David) Stuart, Wausau, Allen (Judy) Lang, Medford, Dennis (Shirley) Lang, Marathon, Charles Jr. (Dottie) Lang, Edgar and Jane (John) Yde, New London; 24 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Belgram, Ord, Nebraska and Carol (Ralph) Banke, Stevens Point; brother, LeRoy (LaVera) Wadzinski, Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Betty Wadzinski, Freemont, Nebraska and Bertha Hasko, Palmetto, Florida, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Hasko, a son, Ronald J. Hasko, Vietnam, a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette (James) Ronek, brother, Donald Wadzinski, a sister-in-law, Violet Wadzinski and a brother-in-law, Marvin Belgram. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed for a scholarship fund to help children who wish to attend St. Matthew School or Newman High School or to the G.R.E.G.
