George Stencil

George M. Stencil, 92, Edgar, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his home. He was born November 11, 1921 in Poniatowski, son of the late Anton and Rose (Urmanski) Stencil. On April 22, 1944 he married the love of his life, Ann Kowalski at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. She survives. On April 5 of this year George and Ann celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends. George had many different jobs throughout his life beginning with logging in Michigan with his whole family and working for Louis Schueller putting an addition on St. John Catholic School when he was just 18 years old. He also farmed in the Edgar area where he grew ginseng, owned and operated a ready mix truck, built many basement walls and poured slabs for new silos. He sold Badger and Jamesway barn cleaners and equipment as well as Merrill barn equipment and silo unloaders. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed going to Lake Nokomis where he built three cottages and bought one already built. At the age of 92, George still hunted and shot both a buck and a doe. Some of his other hobbies included fishing, snowmobiling, going to the casino and playing sheepshead with his family and friends, Alvira and Haron Henrichs and John and Susie Burish. George loved to plant a huge garden every year and canned with his wife, Ann. He was active in his church, both as an usher and hamburger stand worker at the Edgar Carnival and the Edgar Steam Show. Survivors include his loving wife, Ann, Edgar; four children, Diane Laessig, Edgar, Darlene (Ronald) Rajek, Mosinee, Gary Stencil, Edgar and Gloria (Allan) Baumann, Edgar; eight grandchildren, Dan (Jenny) Laessig, Stratford, Duane (Anne) Laessig, Glendale, Erik (Kristen Wazak) Laessig, Omaha, Nebraska, Tammy and Lisa Rajek, Mosinee, Jason (Crystal) Stencil, Edgar, Jennifer (Mike Merriam) Stencil, Weston, Scott (Jennifer) Baumaunn, Marathon and Stacey (Chris) Trawicki, Edgar; 11 great-grandchildren, Tom and Amy Laessig, Adam Laessig, Brady and Mallory Stencil, Addisyn and Anthony Trawicki, Hunter, Mikayla, Zackary and Gabriella Baumann; great great-grandchild, Aubree Laessig; step-grandchildren, Sam, Jake and Zac Casey; brothers, Wally (Arlene) Stencil and Duane (Betty) Stencil; and a sister, Adeline Boser, sisters-in-law, Esther Kolpack and Regina Stencil. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terrance Laessig, great great-granddaughter, Shannon Laessig, brothers, Joe, John, Lawrence and Ervin Stencil, sister Florence (Myszka) and a niece Tammy Hornung. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Pallbearers for the services will be his grandsons, Dan, Duane, Erik Laessig, Scott Baumann, Jason Stencil and godchild, Kevin Stencil. Gift bearers will be Tammy Rajek, Stacey Trawicki, Jennifer Stencil and Amy Laessig, soloist will be Lisa Rajek and piano solo by Mikayla Baumann. The family would like to thank Dr. Arlean Gayle of the Marshfield Clinic Cancer Department and Ministry Home Care Hospice for the compassionate care given to George. Also a special thank you to Rev.
