George J. Simons
81, a husband, father, and friend "finished the race" on Tuesday, May 25th, 2004.
He was born on May 31, 1922 in Wausau, the son of the late George and Mathilda (Fackler) Simons. On September 7, 1946 he married the lovely Evelyn Golomski at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wausau. She survives.
George was employed at 3M in Wausau for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and repairing his motor vehicles. Most special to George was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn, Wausau, and his children, George (Ronda) Simons, Jr., Bellevue, WA, Shirley Hubert, Wausau, Nancy Nigbor, Wauconda, Ill, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, and a challenge - to "fight the good fight," to finish the race, to keep the faith, to win the crown that is in store for us all. He has taken hold of the eternal life to which he was called. We will forever love him and miss his physical presence.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by one sister Marie Barwick.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon, Friday, May 28, 2004 at Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Joseph Gyim-Austin will preside. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the staff in Upper D Unit at North Central Health Care Facilities for the wonderful care and love given to George during his stay.
