George J. Schueller, 89, Edgar, died peacefully Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born January 26, 1925 in Milan, son of the late Louis and Clara (Braun) Schueller. On October 6, 1948 he married Dolores Skrzypcak at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel.
George graduated from Edgar High School in 1942. He was a co-owner with his brother Victor of a school bus company for the Edgar School District. He worked in construction as a foreman for L.H. Schueller and Sons for 20 years. George and Victor bought L.H. Schueller and Sons, changing the name to Schueller Company, Inc. and started a lumber yard. He retired in 1987.
He served the community as the village constable and was also the Edgar Village Assessor. He was a volunteer fireman for the Edgar Fire Department for 28 years, serving as Assistant Fire Chief for 15 years. He organized the Edgar Homecoming parade for many years. He was the treasurer for the Edgar Boy Scouts for 12 years. George was involved in the Edgar Parks Commission, in charge of the construction of the playground at the Minnow Ponds Park.
As a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic parish, he belonged to the Holy Name Society, was an usher, and a choir member, President of St. John School Board and chairman of the building committee for the church addition.
George enjoyed sports from playing baseball and softball as well as watching his children and grandchildren play high school sports.
His family knew he could fix practically anything. He enjoyed the challenge of taking something that did not work apart, and making it work again.
George enjoyed woodworking, gardening, doing sudoku puzzles, watching the Packers and Brewers.
Grandpa George loved making the annual Christmas Eve celebration memorable for his family - decorating the house and creating a unique Christmas village every year.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores, Edgar; children, Ken (fiancAC. Wendy Jones) Schueller, Wausau, Kristine (Joe) Borchardt, Edgar, Carol (Wally) Jansen, Marathon, Linda (Jerry) Mroczenski, Sue (Del) Ballerstein, John Schueller, Donna (Brian) Bargender, all of Edgar, JoAnn (John) Schweitzer, Green Bay, Angie (Mike) Hartnady, Edgar, Paul (Robyn) Schueller, Stratford, Cindy (Jason) Hepfler, Hudson, and Todd (Jennifer) Schueller, Wausau; son-in-law, Dennis Borchardt, Woodbury, MN; 35 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Oliver (Helen) Schueller, Dorothy Schueller, Agnes Adamski, Jeannie (Toby) Heidmann, and Butch (Sandy) Schueller; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Borchardt and siblings, Alois and Victor Schueller, Marie Krause and infant brother Sylvarius Schueller.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. parish rosary service on Tuesday evening at the church.
In lieu of flowers, George's family requests memorials be sent to St. John the Baptist Catholic School or Church.
George was devoted to his wife, family, church and community.
His wife, children and grandchildren will remember him for his strength, patience, guidance, and love.
