George J. Mirek

George J. Mirek, 67, Wausau, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born October 4, 1946 in Wausau, son of the late Joseph and Veronica (Szarkowitz) Mirek. On July 6, 2001, he married Lori (Pukall) Fosterling at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. She survives. George worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, most recently in Portage, Wis., until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed fishing, going up North to his cottage and spending time with his family. Survivors include, his wife, Lori Mirek, Wausau; two step-sons, Robert Fosterling and Cody Fosterling, both of Wausau; his mother-in-law, Jackie Pukall, Birnamwood; one brother-in-law, Bob (Robin) Pukall, Birnamwood; two sisters-in-law, Karen Pukall and Diana (Kurt) Strassburg, both of Bowler; and many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Rudy Pukall. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Very Rev. Allan L. Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
