George W. Heinz

George W. Heinz, 91, formerly of Rothschild, died Tuesday September 26, 2017, at his home in Orlando, Florida, under the care of his family and hospice. He was born April 12th, 1926, in Wausau, son of the late William and Edna Heinz. On November 27, 1948, he married Mary 'Mae" Schneider in Wausau. She preceded him in death January 21, 2015. He enlisted in the Navy in WWII and served as a radio and signal man on a P.T. boat in the South Pacific. After he was honorably discharged, he came back to his hometown of Brokaw and completed a Bachelor's degree at the UW of Stevens Point. He then went on to teach at D. C. Everest, completed his Master's degree and ended his career as a guidance counselor. He was an outdoorsman with a love for hunting, fishing, and golfing and spent many weekends in the Eagle River area at his parents cottage teaching his daughters to fish. He also enjoyed bowling in both Wausau and Florida, playing bridge, dancing and was a longtime member of the Wausau Elks Club. Survivors include four daughters, Heather Heinz, Orlando, Ellen (Jim) Meuret, Hatley, Carla (John) Heinz-Gotzler, Mosinee and Dee (David) Heinz-Bahr, Ecuador, granddaughter, Andrea (Brandon) Robarge-Sinkbeil, Golden, Colorado, sister, Beverly ( Robert) Selvey, Madison and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday October 3, 2017 at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the cemetery chapel. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established which will be donated to D.C. Everest High School and the Never Forgotten Honor Flight .
