George L. Geisler
97, Wausau, a longtime Wausau business owner, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Wausau Manor.
He was born November 9, 1907 in Leed, South Dakota, son of the late, John and Julia (Schosser) Geisler. In 1941 he married Genevieve Ronek who preceded him in death. George moved to Becker, Minn., in 1909 and then to Bruce, Wis., in 1921. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of three bronze stars. George is a graduate of the Wausau Business College.
George owned and managed Wausau Furniture and Appliance Company for over forty years. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and various church, community and service organizations. George served on the People's State Bank Board of Directors for many years. He was well known in the community for his generosity and especially for his contributions to the Wausau Area Catholic Schools, Wausau Area Boys and Girls Club and the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. In the spring of 2003 during the Founders Day program at Newman High School, George was awarded and recognized with the Cornerstone Award. This award is given to a special person in our community who has been a living example of these qualities - a deep faith life, hard work, humility, and a generous spirit.
George is survived by his brothers, Joseph (Helen) Geisler and John (Zola) Geisler, all of Bruce, Wis., and one sister, Amelia Schweigert, Cuba City, sisters-in-law, Agnes Geisler and Helen Geisler, both of Bruce, Wis., Viola Geisler, Exeland, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Genevieve, George was preceded in death by brothers Jacob, Carl and Robert Geisler, sisters Sr. Marie Berchmans and Julie Geisler and one brother-in-law, Gerald Schweigert.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at The Church of St. Anne. The Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau where there will be military graveside services. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
