George G. Gajewski

July 21, 1932 — September 24, 2017

George G. Gajewski, 85, died Sunday, September 24, 2017 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at The Bay at Colonial Manor, Wausau. He was born July 21, 1932, son of the late John and Cecelia "Elsie" (Bukowski) Gajewski. George served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had a lifelong career working in the grocery industry, first at A&P and later at Quality Foods managing the dairy department. In his younger years, he played softball for the Sportsman's Club and threw horseshoes for Colonial Ballroom. He enjoyed playing cards, going to the races and fishing. George also enjoyed pheasant, duck and deer hunting, he was known as "the animal" by his hunting buddies. He loved attending his grandchildren's football and baseball games and was an avid Packer fan attending many games when he was younger. George enjoyed good times and made lifelong friendships at the Domino Bar, Wausau. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and special neighbors who all watched out for him. Survivors include his children, Michael (Teri Sawlsville) Gajewski, Wausau, Patrick (Donna) Gajewski, Marathon and Laura (Lon) Heise, Marathon; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Victoria, Mariah, Noah, Maylee and Victoria Lynn; great-grandchildren, Paityn and Jayden; brother, Paul Gajewski; sister, Patricia Polster; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jean Gajewski and a brother-in-law, Ronald Polster. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Michael Catholic Church. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Mobile Meals, Colonial Manor and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. We especially want to thank his special caregivers, Donna and Teri for their kind, compassionate care given to George.
