George W. Fergot
81, 119 N. 4th Avenue., Edgar, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at his home.
He was born August 2, 1923 in Embarrass, son of the late George and Marie (Devlen) Fergot. On August 27, 1943 he married Doris Vogedes in St. Louis, MO. She survives.
George was the former manager of the Edgar Co-op until his retirement. Hunting and fishing were some of George's favorite pastimes but his devotion to the Edgar area showed his true passion in life. There he was involved with the Edgar Planning Committee, Boy Scouts, Little League, American Legion Saywer-Drumm Post #393 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10187. George also served as an usher and a caretaker at St. John Catholic Church. Most special to George was his 54 year involvement with the Edgar Area Fire Department, serving as their Fire Chief for over 50 years.
George was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors besides his wife Doris, Edgar include his children, Georgia (Roger) Benson, Mosinee, Keith (Karen) Fergot, Appleton, Gary (Diane Drinsinger) Fergot, Edgar, Sue (Archie) Becker, Athens and Michael (Wendy) Fergot, New York, 11 grandchildren, Michele (Mondell) Peters, Jody (Kristin) Benson, Patrick (Tracy) Benson, Tara (Chris Schoenrocker) Fergot, Ryan and Rachel Fergot, Jenny (Perry) Werner, Jackie and Brian Becker, Alec and Haley Magvid, 6 great grandchildren, Megan, Marissa, Max and Dylan Peters and Taylor and Madeson Benson, two sisters, Marge Roberts, Edgar, Nancy (Fritz) Ulrich, Stratford, four brothers, Gordy (Lois) Fergot, California, Bill (Sylvia) Fergot, Edgar, Robert (Joyce) Fergot, Wausau and Sam (Mary) Fergot, Edgar.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by one sister Edythe Moore and one brother Roy Fergot.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Edgar. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in George's name.
