Genevieve M. Smith 92, Wausau, died Friday September28, 2007 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau. She was born October 4, 1914, in St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter of the late Walter and Frances (Gusteson) Nielson. On October 10, 1941, she married Kenneth Smith in St. Paul, Minn. He survives. Genevieve was a homemaker. Gen and Ken were also very active volunteers in the community. In 2003, they received the "Orchids to You" Award from the Altrusa International Inc. of Wausau recognizing their volunteerism. Among their many causes were the Salvation Army, Mount View Care Center, Catholic Charities, Volunteer Center of Marathon County, Marathon County Public Library and the Church of St. Anne. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Wausau, a nephew, Robert Emerson, Chisago City, Minn and many friends. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday October 2, 2007 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
