Gene Leo Lodholz

Gene Leo Lodholz, 82, 215 North 12th Avenue, Wausau, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002. Gene was born January 15, 1920 in Wausau, son of the late Leo and Pearl (Burns) Lodholz. He married Marion (Kurth)on October 25, 1941, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ringle. She survives. Gene was a territorial Sales Manager for the Dykro Company in Milwaukee for many years and most recently was a part-time sales person for Grebe's in Wausau, retiring in January so he could spend time with his beloved wife and work in his flowerbeds. Gene served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre. He has been a member of First English Lutheran Church from birth and is a 25-year member of the Elks Club in Wausau. He enjoyed sports, especially watching his grandchildren's baseball games, the Brewers and watching the Packer games. He also enjoyed reading all sorts of literature, especially western novels. Besides his wife of 60 years, Marion, he is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Lampe, Rothschild; one son, Richard (Karen) Lodholz, Wausau; six grandchildren, Kevin (Barbara) Lodholz, Kristin Lampe, Tiffany (Tom Ellington) Lodholz, Evan Lampe, Travis Lodholz, Amanda Lampe; one sister, Edith Durkee, Rothschild; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Gene, two brothers, Archie & James Lodholz and his step-father, Hans Berg. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2002 at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Jay Kamrath will officiate. Burial will be Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, and again from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. Pallbearers for the service will be Gene's grandchildren. "Gene's & Marion's most enjoyable memories were spent with their family and traveling throughout the U.S., Europe and China." He will be greatly missed by his family as he was their "rock".
