Gene G. Jacob

Gene G. Jacob, 76, Mosinee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at his home, while under the care of Aspirus at Home Hospice.

He was born May 25, 1950 in Rib Falls, son of the late Harold and Eleanora (Baumann) Jacob. On July 13, 1968 he married Rose Ann Heil at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives.

Gene met Rose Ann while working at the Marvin Hanke ginseng garden in 1967. They then married on July 13, 1968 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where they continued to attend through their celebration of 58 years of marriage.

Gene was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for many years holding a position as Chief Ranger in the local court 795. He also held a position in the State Court as the state youth director.

Gene worked at Marathon Cheese for about 48 years. Working in many departments and making many friends throughout the years. He helped his father-in-law on the farm making hay and milking cows when they were on vacation. He also helped in their ginseng gardens. Gene eventually started his own ginseng garden.

Gene enjoyed deer hunting with his wife for one year helping her get a deer with his children and grandchildren along with other family members. He enjoyed cooking maple syrup and making sausage with family. He was someone who if anyone needed a helping hand with anything he was always there to help.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Jacob, Mosinee, his children, Theresa (Jay) Zemke, Mosinee, Carl (Niki) Jacob, Weston, William (Rita) Jacob, Hatley, James Jacob, Mosinee and Richard (Bobbie) Jacob, Mosinee, his grandchildren, Leah (Jaxson) Zemke, Mitchell (Charlotte) Zemke, Bowen Jacob, LuJack (Roseanne) Jacob, Dillon (Kelsey) Jacob, Jessy Jacob, Zachary (Alissa) Jacob, Brandon (Katie) Jacob, Daniel Jacob, Dakota Merriam, Leroy Jacob, Alana (Josh) Jacob and Stanley Jacob, his great grandchildren, Khloe Cox, Connor Jacob, Jemma Jacob and Rayah Jacob. Gene is further survived by his siblings, Roy (Karen) Jacob, Athens, Gloria (Lyle) Jaegler, Merrill, Wally Jacob, Minnesota, Grace Patyk, Lake Geneva, Glen Jacob, Athens, Sue Sawyer, Marathon, Bruce Jacob, Hamburg, Rose Jacob, Arizona and Rachel (Steve) Doran, Edgar and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Desirah Jacob, his daughter-in-law, Sarah Jacob, his sister, Shirley Witz and three brothers-in-law, Bob Patyk, Donald Witz and Steve Sawyer.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Marathon Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
